Zero Findings in FTA and ODOT Reviews

At Cherriots, we work hard to make sure public transit in our community is safe, reliable, and well-managed. That’s why we’re proud to share the results from two recent, important oversight reviews – one from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the other from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).

These reviews happen every three years to confirm how public transportation agencies, like Cherriots, manage the funding we receive and to ensure we are in compliance with the rules required by state and federal programs.

What Are These Reviews?

Both reviews evaluate how we administer our programs, maintain our records, manage our finances, support people with disabilities, and much more. These are detailed inspections, run by independent review teams, that make sure we’re following all the laws and requirements tied to the funding we receive.

If problems are found, agencies may have to make big changes, face more oversight, or even risk losing future funding. The good news is Cherriots had zero findings in both the ODOT and FTA reviews!

This means we passed both reviews with no issues, and we don’t need to take any corrective action. Such an achievement is uncommon. For example, only about 20% of agencies across the entire country achieve this in a typical year for the FTA Triennial Review.

ODOT Compliance Review

ODOT looked at several key areas during their review. These included:

  • How we use state funds, like the Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund (STIF) and Special Transportation Fund (STF)
  • How we manage subrecipients (partner agencies we help fund)
  • How we follow Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) rules
  • How we handle financial procedures

FTA Triennial Review

The FTA’s Triennial Review happens every three years. It’s a full check-up on up to 23 different areas (if applicable), including:

  • Grant management
  • Financial systems
  • Maintenance and safety
  • Civil rights, Title VI, and ADA compliance
  • Drug and alcohol programs
  • Procurement and contracting

Why This Matters

These reviews help ensure your tax dollars are used responsibly. They also open the door for Cherriots to qualify for future funding opportunities to keep buses running, improve technology, upgrade facilities, and support the services our community relies on every day.

We take these reviews seriously because they reflect who we are: a trusted community partner that operates with excellence, transparency, and respect.

Thank you for choosing Cherriots — and thank you for helping us keep transit strong in our region!
