What is Transit Equity Day?

Transit Equity Day is observed nationally each year on February 4, the birthday of Rosa Parks. The day honors her life and legacy, and recognizes the ongoing importance of fair, accessible public transportation in our communities.
Rosa Parks’ actions helped spark changes that made public transit more accessible. Today, many riders still rely on transit as their primary connection to jobs, healthcare, education, faith, and community.
Why Cherriots is participating
Offering fare‑free service on Transit Equity Day reflects Cherriots commitment to equitable mobility. It’s a way to honor Rosa Parks’ role in advancing civil rights while reinforcing our responsibility to provide accessible public transportation for everyone we serve.
